About Sue

I have 35 years of therapeutic experience; having qualified as a doctor in 1984 and subsequently trained as a GP and Psychiatrist, becoming a member of both Royal Colleges. Since 1997 I changed from working as a doctor and am now a counsellor and therapist, running my own practice in Bristol and Minchinhampton (near Stroud in Gloucestershire).

As a child I had always wanted to help people to heal. By becoming a doctor, this was the beginning of that path. I loved the immense depth of contact with people whom I met through working in hospitals and general practice.

"The heart surrenders everything to the moment. The mind judges and holds back." Ram Dass

However, I kept feeling that there was something missing in my life and so I started my search in 1986. I was looking for something deeper within myself, connected to a spiritual path. Initially this lead me to different types of meditation (including mindfulness) and then to meeting Bob Moore, an internationally renowned healer. For the first time in my life I felt deeply understood and 'seen'. For seven years Is studied with Bob in Denmark, working with self-development, healing, energy exercises and meditation. The wisdom and profundity of this work fed my soul. In the UK I also attended a variety of workshops, broadening my understanding of spiritual awareness and body-orientated therapies.

In 1995, I began to question the direction my career was going in and felt the need for a greater authenticity and freedom. I decided to specialise in a new area. I had always felt that prescribing drugs was only a small part of the answer to health. I had noticed that many people were wishing for a better quality of life. They seemed to be looking for a real feeling of security and a deeper sense of trust to enable them to become free of fear. I wanted to explore helping people in this deeper way.

In 1997 I started my own practice in Bristol, seeing individuals with a wide range of problems. I felt more fulfilled and knew I was helping people to really face their problems and change.

Since Bob Moore retired in 1999, I have continued with my own personal self-development through my spiritual practices and have received inspiration and guidance from Amma, Thich Nhat Hanh and Pema Chödrön, to name but a few. I regularly sing devotional music (under the name of Bharati) with my husband, Dinesh, in Stroud.

I am passionate about growing and eating organic vegetables; music; the climate emergency and my husband (not necessarily in that order!).

Like many, I am concerned about the degradation of our planet and our loss of harmony with nature and the rhythms of the seasons. At this critical stage in human evolution, I feel that if we help ourselves on an inner level, this will benefit us individually and be reflected into the world and promote positive change.
