About Sue

I have 33 years of therapeutic experience; having qualified as a doctor in 1984 and subsequently trained as a GP and Psychiatrist, becoming a member of both Royal Colleges.  Since 1997 I changed from working as a doctor and am now a counsellor and therapist, running my own practice in Bristol and Minchinhampton (near Stroud).

As a child I had always wanted to help people heal.  My becoming a doctor was my beginning on that path.  I loved the immense depth of contact with people whom I met through working in hospitals and GP practice.

However, I kept feeling that there was something missing in my life and so I started my search in 1986.  I was looking for something deeper within myself, connected to a spiritual path.  Initially this lead me to different types of meditation (such as mindfulness) and then to meeting Bob Moore, an internationally renowned healer.  For the first time in my life I felt deeply understood and ‘seen’.  For seven years I studied with Bob in Denmark, working with self-development, healing, energy exercises and meditation.  The wisdom and profundity of this work fed my soul.  In the UK, I also attended a wide variety of workshops: broadening my understanding of spiritual awareness and body-orientated therapies.

In 1995, I began to question the direction my career was going in and felt the need for a greater authenticity and freedom.  I decided to specialise in a new area. I had always felt that prescribing drugs was only part of the answer to health.  I had noticed that many people were wishing for a better quality of life.  They seemed to be looking for a real feeling of security and a deeper sense of trust to enable them to become free of fear.  I wanted to explore helping people in this deeper way.

In 1997 I started my own practice in Bristol, seeing individuals with a wide range of problems.  I felt more fulfilled and knew I was helping people to really face their problems and change.

Since Bob Moore retired in 1999, I have continued my own personal self-development through my spiritual practices and have received inspiration and guidance from Amma, Thich Nhat Hanh, Pema Chödron and Ram Dass to name but a few. Sue regularly sings devotional music (under the name of Bharati) with her husband, Dinesh in Stroud and other places in the UK.

I am passionate about growing and eating organic vegetables, sustainability, recycling, Indian devotional singing and my husband, Michael Dinesh (not necessarily in that order!).

Like many I am concerned about the degradation of our planet and our loss of harmony with nature and the rhythms of the seasons.  At this critical stage in human evolution, I feel that if we help ourselves on an inner level, this will benefit us individually and be reflected into the world and promote positive changes.
